Individual therapy

A weekly hour that is yours

For adults who want a place to talk about work, family, belonging, or whatever has gone unsaid, in Korean, in English or in both.

Sessions are 50 minutes, in the office in Fort Lee or by video. Nunchi, the habit of reading the room, is a skill many of us learned early. In this room you do not need it.

What to expect

How individual therapy works at Dew

  • Who it helps

Adults who grew up between Korean and American ways of doing things and want a place to sort them out.

  • What sessions look like

You talk, Minho listens and asks questions. Some weeks you know what to say. Some weeks you do not, and that is fine.

  • The method

Minho uses talk therapy, drawing on cognitive behavioral and family systems approaches, adjusted to you. He does not follow a script.

  • What this is not

Therapy is not medication, an evaluation or an emergency service. If you need one of those, we will help you find it.

  • Length and frequency

Sessions are 50 minutes. Most people begin weekly. Your therapist sets the pace with you, and no number of sessions is promised.

  • How it is paid

You pay for each session yourself, and we give you a monthly receipt for out-of-network claims.

Questions

Three questions people ask

What happens in the first session?

It lasts 60 minutes. Minho explains how he works, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of therapy, and he listens. At the end you both decide whether to continue.

Are you licensed where I live?

Minho is licensed in New Jersey. By video he sees people who are in New Jersey during the session. If you are elsewhere, we will help you find someone licensed where you live.

What is confidential, and what are the limits?

What you share stays in the session. The law sets limits: if someone is at serious risk of harming themselves or another person, or if abuse of a child or an older adult is suspected, your therapist may have to tell others. We explain this in writing before you start.
